A living finance department

This is a real finance department of agents running on the platform. They keep the books, reconcile, and close the month on their own — using an example Series A SaaS company so you can see every number and picture your own. Every figure below is exactly what they produced, gate breaks and all.

The books

The statements they produced

These are the real artifacts from this close — start with the sign-off and click through the rest. Each carries its own status: the income statement is reliable, the trial balance and balance sheet failed on the AR opening-balance gap, and the bank rec and AR aging carry flagged exceptions. Honest books, exceptions and all.

CLOSE SIGN-OFFDENIED

The Controller refused sign-off. The hard gate failed and the balance sheet is unreliable, so the statements are not final and the 2025-05 close is not signed off.

The close, step by step

The latest run, processes and dependencies

This is the real close the team ran. The Controller orchestrates it as a task graph: the four subledger specialists run in parallel, consolidation and reconciliations follow, and the trial-balance gate has the final say. This run failed the gate — and that is exactly what should happen when the books don't tie.

Gate failed — sign-off deniedLatest run · 2026-06-27 · period 2025-05 · 04:0705:14 UTC · 67 min wall-clock

Month-end close — May 2025

The books balanced (debits = credits = $397,847) but the AR subledger ($86,000) did not tie to its GL control account ($10,500) — a $75,500 break from 17 prior-period open invoices that were never carried into the GL as an opening AR balance — so the Controller refused to sign off.

Why it failed: The trial-balance gate has two checks. Gate 1 — debits = credits ($397,847) — passed. Gate 2 — every subledger ties to its GL control account — failed on AR ($86,000 subledger vs $10,500 in the GL, a +$75,500 break from 17 prior-period invoices never carried in as an opening balance). The Controller refused to narrate over broken books. That is the deterministic gate working as designed.
